Music

Live

Going out to see a band perform is always an exciting experience. (Well, alright, sometimes a band will let you down, but I'm going to talk about the good ones.) Here I review musical performances I attend, which should be quite numerous. Although I can't afford to pay big bucks to see every mega-star that rolls through town (nor do I care to), there just happens to be a horde of independent domestic and imported bands constantly swarming around Vancouver.

My Songs

Song writing is an art that comes naturally to almost every child. Unfortunately, most educational institutions focus on the technical skills involved in music, or on aping the accomplishments of "established" songwriters and composers. Modern work places discourage a "whistle while you work" attitude, in favour of "canned" music or deathly silence. Herein lie my efforts at allaying this tragedy, at least in my own environment.

Papernet

My cousin, James, put together a newsletter to help connect indie bands and get them to pool their resources. So far, it's culminated in two very diverse audio cassette compilations, called, respectively, Papernet 1 and Papernet 2, featuring bands from all over North America.

Pastime With Good Company

I've been singing with this a capella folk ensemble for around seven years. We cover songs in over twenty-five different languages and from as long ago as the 15th century. This section of the site will contain information about the people in the choir and the songs we do. If you are interested in our recorded material, this is where you can find out how to get a hold of it. I will also keep you posted about upcoming gigs and other events.
