I did this using a Laurentian™ 60 colour pencil crayon set and an eight piece set of Crayola® markers, both of which I borrowed from Steve. The markers have actually gone into a state of decay during the eight years since they were originally purchased and reek of something akin to vinegar.
Scanning the picture into digital format was also graciously performed by Steve. I cropped the image substantially to afford higher resolution within a reasonable display time.
Here's a close-up. Probably closer than you wanted to get. Again, thanks to Steve for scanning. I deepened the shadows digitally and painted the background virginal white for your viewing pleasure. And yes, she has knitting needles through her eyebrows and ears.
